OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES

The interactive workshop will provide the learner with an understanding of the different mechanisms that can be used to exercise control over suppliers.

Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) is one of the pre-requisite programmes (PRPs) that ensures successful functioning of a food-safety management system as, without guaranteed and safe supplies, the whole food-safety management system may be compromised. Mechanisms and methods for implementing and controlling an SQA system will determine the effectiveness of SQA and, therefore, food safety.

Course Objectives 

To equip participants with a knowledge of SQA principles and the tools for maintaining the system. By the time the course has been completed, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between food safety and SQA
  • Develop and implement a documented SQA system by selecting the most effective mechanisms
  • Be able to conduct supplier audits resulting in:
    • More efficient food plant operation with a decrease in waste
    •  An improved ability to meet legal requirements
    • An enhanced ability to control potential food hazards

  • SQA mechanisms
    • Supplier approval questionnaires
    • Inspection testing, certificates of analysis and conformance
    • Specifications
    • Service level agreements
    • Ongoing vendor (supplier) rating
  • Review of the SQA programme
  • Supplier audits: auditor selection, documentation and report on audits
  • Advantages and disadvantages of the SQA programme
  • Practical application: exercises and case studies

A certificate of attendance will be issued once the course has been successfully completed.
